6 Week Check Up

Jacob had his 6 week appointment today.
He is really beefing up.

Here are the stats:
Height = 23 in (85th Percentile)
Weight = 12 lbs 7 oz (85th Percentile)
Head Circumference = 15.7 in (97th Percentile)

Jacob also had to get all his immunizations.
I hate this part.
There is nothing worse than holding him and having him look at you right after they poke him.
It is like he just lost all trust in me.
He got so worked up we had to take him for a drive to calm him down.
He was miserable all weekend!
He would just scream in pain and wasn't able to sleep.
I believe it was stomach related because he would pull his legs up to his chest.
Also, he felt better once he spit up or had a bowel movement.
I blame the oral rota-virus!
Ryan gave him a blessing and thankfully he was finally able to sleep for a 5 hour stretch that night.
I'm so not looking forward to the 4 month appointment!

One Month

My Dear Jacob,
Wow, time flies by way too fast!
I can't believe you are one month old.
You have already captured my heart (and the hearts of your dad, grandparents, aunts, and uncles).
Your dad and I are so obsessed with every little thing you do.
You have changed so much in one month.
Everyday I notice changes.

I am so blessed to be your mother.
You are the sweetest baby I know.
You rarely cry or are fussy.
I think it is because you are such a good eater.
You love to eat!
In fact we've nick named you our little Hoover.
Look at that Budda belly!

You have started to smile more consistently.
I love those smiles.
They make everything worth it!
I think the number of pictures I posted prove my point.

You have added so new noises to your vocabulary.
I think you will be cooing very soon.
When I lay you down to sleep you make the funniest sound.
Your dad and I call it your warble.
Some days nights you warble for almost half and hour!

You hate getting your diaper changed.
Taking a bath relaxes you.
You love riding in the car (as long as we don't have to stop at red lights).

You love to lay on the floor and wiggle.
You haven't gotten on a regular schedule yet but we're working on it!
You love your dad and have a hard time when he isn't home.
Sometimes I'll lay you on one of his shirts and it calms you right down.

Jacob, I love you more than you will ever know.
Happy One Month!
I look forward to many more months with you!
Love, Mom

A Name and a Blessing

Today I was reminded of the miracle that it is to have Jake as part of our family.
Today Jacob was given a name and a blessing by his amazing father.
I felt so close to heaven as I watched Ryan give Jacob a name and blessing.
I am so grateful that Ryan is worthy of his priesthood and was able to do that for Jacob.
Jacob's blessing was so amazing.
I have been given a very special boy to raise.
I can't wait to see what his future holds!

We were blessed to have so many of our family and friends in attendance.
Ryan's parents and my dad's parents flew in from Utah.
My parents and siblings drove up from Indiana.
We also had 5 of Ryan's friends from school, his professor and the family I used to nanny for attend.
After the blessing we had everyone over to our tiny apartment for lunch.
It was great to have the chance to spend time with everyone.
Thank you to everyone who supported us in this important event.

Megan loved him too but she was more dainty in her affection!

Graduation

Today Ryan graduated from the University of Wisconsin with his Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
I am so proud of all of his hard work to get to this point.
We were fortunate enough to have both sets of parents and my sibling in attendance.
Even Jake cooperated enough for us to stay the whole time (2 long hours to be exact!).
Granted we did have to take him out to the hall because it was so loud in the Kohl's Center, but he was a real trooper!
I can't believe that we made it to this point.
Our time in Madison flew by!
But now Master Calder is off to bigger adventures.
Congratulations Ryan!
