Pregnancy Craziness

So I feel like I finally had a crazy pregnancy moment.

A couple nights ago Ryan and I were laying in bed

It was midnight and I couldn't fall asleep because I was starving

Seriously it felt like I would die if I didn't get something to eat immediately!

Thankfully Ryan was also hungry so we willed ourselves out of bed,

made a midnight snack,

and watched Duck Dynasty.

Now in case you forgot this is so not me.

I'm the type of person that would prefer to go to bed at 9pm.

So Ryan was thrilled to finally have a midnight snack buddy.

I will sadly admit that this has happened a couple other times this week but at hours that Ryan was sound asleep.

Oh the joys of pregnancy insomnia.

Little Bachelor Shower

So for those of you who don't know I have a guilty pleasure.

Every week (when the show is airing) I get together with some girls from the ward and we watch The Bachelor.

There is just something so enjoyable about getting together and analyzing that show to pieces.

Seriously it is one of the highlights of my week.

So when these lovely ladies offered to throw me a baby shower it just had to be Bachelor themed.

Now I bet you've never seen Bachelor themed baby shower ideas show up on your pinterest feed so here is what you need to make it happen.

1.  Your future child needs to be pretty much the only boy born that year in your ward.  I mean this little guy is seriously going to be surrounded by girls! 

2. The colors are red and black (roses and tuxes)

3. Food is centered around a cocktail party with appetizers and virgin drinks

4. Party favors and prizes are chocolates and roses

There you have it 4 steps to a Bachelor themed shower.  Now hopefully my pinterest feed will be slammed with future Bachelor baby showers and you have Eliza, Stephanie, Mylia and Kaylee to thank!

We played a game called "Daddy Knows Best"

Ryan had to answer the questions like how long babies sleep each day, what he doesn't want to pass on to his child, how to describe my mood during pregnancy, etc.

Then I had to try to guess what he put.

The guests picked the number of questions they thought I would get right and whoever got the closest won.

It was tough! 

Especially since Ryan had some pretty funny answers but I think I did pretty good.

 On the show there is this room with a picture of all the Bachelorettes.

The Bachelor always goes into that room before making a decision at the rose ceremony and there is always a shot of him with a contemplating look.

So at the shower all the guests brought pictures of their daughters and I played pin the heart on the girl of my son's dreams. Haha

So I had to get a contemplative shot of me on his behalf.

The heart landed on Eliza's daughter and I think Jake chose wisely. (Seriously though he'd be lucky to end up with any of those girls!)

The shower was a success and I had a lot of fun!

I may have to drive to Madison every week to keep watching the show with these girls when we move.

Nesting 101

First I think I deserve a little freak out.

4 more weeks people!

Seriously we are under 30 days.

I can't believe it.

Time has gone by soooo fast.

If it is going by this fast when I feel huge and uncomfortable I can't even imagine how fast this little guy will grow up!

 

Naturally my retirement has brought on a lot of nesting.

Currently I have successfully cleaned all base board, door frames, doors, and kitchen cabinets.

Baby clothes are washed, folded and put away.

Car seat instruction manual has been read.

Half of my freezer meals have been made.

Don't worry all my retirement hasn't been this productive.

Especially on days like today.

in March

Why didn't we get a job in San Diego? (jk, but really!)

I've spent lots on time pinning, reading blogs, and watching my favorite shows (so sad The Bachelor is over).

For instance, I came across this little gem today.

I'll admit I laughed pretty hard.

I have been extra giggly since I've become pregnant.

Ryan thinks it is because now I actually have a belly laugh.

I think things have just magically gotten funnier.

 

Also, my back pain has been more manageable.

I've been very careful about how I sit.

I am now a dedicated floor sitter.

However the getting up and down off the floor is getting progressively more difficult.

I make sure I "exercise" (if you can call it that)

I use the recumbent bike and take a gentle movers water aerobics class.

Lets just say it is hard to take exercising seriously when everyone is able to do more than you.

When I say everyone I'm including the 90 year old woman in my water aerobics class!

So yes I may have days like today where I'm still in my pajamas, 

but I think I've made some good nesting progress!

February Updates

I am failing at updating this blog.

I blame it on the fact that February was crazy.

The bad part about a busy month though is that now I have about a million five things to write about.

So buckle up my dedicated blog readers!

1. Retirement

I am now officially retired!

The family that I worked for found a new nanny in the middle of January so now I am free to become the ultimate nester.

2. Alamagordo

  My best friend, Charise, moved to New Mexico over over the summer.

It nearly broke my heart.

I mean going from next door neighbors to being thousands of miles away is rough.

But the week they were moving my sweet husband surprised me with an airline voucher so that I could go visit them.

Well despite our best efforts we couldn't find time that would work between our two schedules.

Then when we both found out we were pregnant the trip seemed like it would be years away.

Needless to say when I found out my job was going to end sooner I call Charise up and we set a date!

It was so good to see the Millers again.

I had tons of fun just hanging out and staying up late talking.

Thanks for letting me come visit!

1. Reading stories with Cooper and Lynndon   2. Eating muddy buddies and watching the super bowl   3. Sledding down the sand dunes with Cooper  4.  Enjoying the wonderful sun  5. Building sand castles with Lynndon (Well I was building, Lynndon was knocking them down)

3. Utah Trip

I also used my extra time off to go and visit Ryan's family in Utah.

It had been over a year since I had been to Utah and boy did I miss it.

There is just something about it that feels like home!

Of course I made sure to get at all of my Utah favorites like Cafe Rio, Pizza Factory, and Orange Peel.

It was so nice just to hang out with the family.

I only wish Ryan could have come with me!

My in-laws are the best and offered to throw a shower for me while I was there.

It was a great idea because I got to see so many friends and family at once.

The decorations were darling and the food was delicious!

Sadly I could only stay for a week but hopefully we'll be able to see them all soon when the baby comes.

4. Pregnancy Update

 So I'm kinda freaking out about the whole pregnancy thing.

Time is going by way too fast!

I less have 7 weeks until my due date.

That is 46 days people!

Okay, okay enough freaking out.

But seriously where have the last 7 months gone?

Hopefully now that I have all my world traveling out of my system I'll have time to get things ready.

5. And the winner is....

February has also been full of job searching.

Ryan was busy traveling for interviews.

Then both of us were stressed trying to decide which job would be the best for us.

Well it is now official.

We will be moving to Milwaukee in June.

Ryan accepted a full time job at a company called Unico.

Don't ask me what he'll be doing because I'm not too sure but he's excited about it.

So it looks like February isn't going to be the only busy month at our house.

April = Baby

May = Defend thesis and graduate

June = Move to Milwaukee and start a grown-up job

Bring on the Madness!

Christmas 2012 :: Spain

I was determined to blog about our Christmas trip before January ended.

Recording memories just always seems like such a big task,

But it is always worth it!

So here goes probably the longest blog post ever!

The Journey to Spain

1. Pregnant woman + long international flight = thankles (yes you read that right one straight line from the thigh to the ankle)

2. Pregnant woman + no sleep on said flight = meltdown in Paris (I blame the hormones and tell myself this wouldn't have happened if I wasn't pregnant)

3. Paris Airport = the most confusing, worst designed airport in the world

4.  Friends and Family = people that are excited to see you no matter how terrible you look and how cranky you feel!

Valencia and Onda

Day 1

After getting a good night's sleep I was finally ready to enjoy Spain.

For breakfast we went to Ana's family's bakery.

DELICIOUS!

I discovered the ensemada and probably ate my weight in them during our trip.

Note:  The only "real" ensemada can be found at the Castan bakery

Then we headed to Valencia.

I love Valencia and the weather was amazing.

That night we had a delicious Christmas Eve dinner (feast for a lifetime) with Fransisco and his family.

 Seriously we had like 8 courses.

I don't think I've ever been so full in my entire life.

This dinner put Thanksgiving to shame!

But every course was so good I just had to eat more and let's be serious I can never turn down dessert.

Day 2

  We enjoyed a relaxing day in Onda for Christmas.

Hanging out in the sun, eating fresh oranges and homemade paella, and a small gift exchange.

That evening we got to talk to my brother who is serving his mission in Russia and to Ryan's family.

We also went to this nativity display.  

It was really cool and covered the entire life of Christ.

Day 3

In the morning we went to the castle in Onda, built in the 8th century.

It was weird to be standing in something that was so old.

Madrid

  Day 3 cont.

Next we drove to Madrid and checked into our hotel there.

That night we walked around enjoying the sights and the Christmas lights.

Madrid was definitely colder than Valencia but an improvement to Wisconsin.

Day 4

1. Madrid Temple:  We did a session there and Ryan was able to do the whole session in Spanish! 2. In front of the palace and palace gardens  3. Kilometer marker 0 for all highways in Spain 4-5.  These are actual people dressed up like statues.  They change positions and are all over Spain.  We were pretty impressed by these two guys.

Barcelona

Day 5

Drive to Barcelona.

Stopped at Zaragoza to see the largest cathedral I have ever seen.

Seriously, this should be the 8th wonder of the world.

Day 6

A.K.A. The laundry adventure

Thanks to Fransisco we were able to do laundry.

We spent most of the day cleaning clothes.

That afternoon we hit the streets.

1. If you drink from this fountain it means you will return to Barcelona  2.  Statue of Christopher Columbus  3-5.  A couple of the buildings designed by Gaudi

Day 7

Day 8 

In the morning we headed outside the city to Montserrat.  

It is a monastery up high in the mountains.

The views were incredible and it really made me miss Utah.

 

The monastery houses the Virgin of Montserrat.

Legend has it that the monks could not move the statue so they built the monastery around it.

People travel great distances just to touch this statue in hopes of receiving blessings.

We used the afternoon to visit the mission office where my dad served.

Then I knew if I wanted to stay up to celebrate New Year's Eve I was going to need a nap!

That evening we went to dinner with Ana and Fransisco right by the Castle of Montjuic.

We ate a lot of food and celebrated the new year in the restaurant.

A little before midnight they brought us hats, masks, noise makers, and grapes.

In Spain you eat a grape for every chime of the clock at midnight.

It was so fun to stuff those grapes.

Ryan and I want to make this a tradition every year!

Day 9

This was our only day with rainy weather.

It couldn't have been timed better since we only had a couple things to see and then we would be heading back to Onda.

1-3. La Sagrada Familia:  A cathedral still under construction.  The project started in 1882 with architectural influence from Gaudi.  The project is expected to be completed in 2026.  4. Arch of Triumph  5-6.  Incredible fountain in Parc de la Ciutadella  (we were sick of the same poses for pictures at this point and got a little creative!)

After finishing in Barcelona Ryan, Jenna, Ana, and I took the train back to Onda.

I love riding in the train and wish the US had a better train system!

Onda, Castellon, and Valencia

Day 10

We spent the day relaxing in Onda after all our traveling.

The weather was so amazing we even tried to get some color on our ghostly skin.

That afternoon we walked up to the ruins of an old Abbey. 

It was a beautiful, relaxing day!

Day 11

We spent most of the day in Castellon.

We walked along the beach, ate delicious paella, and visited a family my mom knew from her mission.

Day 12

My parents and sister flew home early that morning so we spent the day with Fransisco in Valencia.

We toured the City of Arts and Science.

It felt like we were in another planet while we were there.

All the buildings were so unique (design by the same architect who did the Milwaukee Art Museum)

After the City of Arts and Science we went to the beach.

The sand was so soft and the sun felt incredible.

That evening we said goodbye to our friends.

Thank you so much for the trip of a life time!

Journey Home

The flight home was much better than the flight to Spain.

I still hate the Paris airport.

Our flight had to circle for like 30 minutes.

Then you exit the plane on the tarmac and bus to the airport.

Our bus had to wait for 20 minutes because a plane tail was hanging 2 feet into the path.

By this time we have 40 minutes to cross the entire airport, exit security, go through customs, re-enter the secure area, and make it to our flight.

Needless to say that was the fastest I have ever moved in my entire pregnant life.

I definitely got the circulation flowing in my legs!

We made our flight and were the last people to board the plane.

I did laps on the plane like every 45 minutes, we watched a ton of tv, and landed in Detroit feeling pretty good.

I mean I only had cankles so life was good!

Customs in Detroit was a breeze and it was so nice to be back in America and able to read the signs again, but we had a great trip and look forward to when we can go back!

For each meal we would assign a "Food President" to pick which restaurant we would eat at.

This way we would save time trying to get 7 people to agree and everyone would get a turn.

Jenna picked the restaurant with the best food.

My dad picked the restaurant with the best view.

Fransisco and Ana picked the best restaurant to celebrate New Year's Eve in.
