So you came here to get an update on our lives........

......... but all you get is my view on a current issue.

Have you seen this video?  It has sparked a huge discussion and debate online and in the news.  I would just like to put my thoughts out there because I feel like Hilary Rosen was wrong to make the comments she did.

1.  Why are women so mean to other women?  I feel like with the issues and attacks that women get we should stick together, not turn and attack each other.  This is one of the reasons I love Relief Society.

2.  The choice to be a stay at home mom is not only a choice for women in Ann Romney's economic class.  Rosen is suggesting that being a stay at home mom is only an option if you don't have to sacrifice anything financially.  Many women choose to stay home even when their family is not as well off in hopes our being able to raise their children themselves and not outsource the most important job a parent has.  Plus,  in a lot of families where both spouses work they don't actually make that much more money each year because now they have to pay for child care, they will probably eat our more to save time, and they may need to invest in work clothes.

3.  Being a stay at home mom is a lot of work and is a very important job.  Mom's are raising the future generation.  One of my favorite quotes is "The solution to crime is not in the electric chair but in the high chair."

4.  I can't believe Rosen would say that stay at home mom's are out of touch with news and the economy.  That is the same view that kept women from voting and owning land for so long.  Plus, it is typically stay at home moms who budget for the family, work to make a pay check goes as far as it can, and find ways to save for their children's future.  How can Rosen believe that stay at home moms don't have to worry about the well being of their children?

Well, if you made it this far I am truly impressed!  Sorry you had to put up with my ranting this has just been on my mind the past few days.  Please share your views, I would love you here your opinions about the video and stay at home moms.

  1. That's insane. And what is even weirder than the original comment is that the point she was trying to make is also unfair. She is suggesting that Ann Romney is somehow incapable of being a valid sounding board for her husband AND also saying that she is not really smart enough to understand current issues. So just because you are a stay-at-home mom means you are out of touch and unable to express opinions? So weird.

I also read this article today. Maybe you've seen it. http://www.salon.com/2012/04/13/end_the_mom_war/
